I didn't hold out much hope for the session as the wind on the beach was
horrible and gusty, anything from 12 knots to 24 knots.
However, once on the water with my big (90ltr) board and 5.7m sail I was
perfectly powered up and flying along. Getting out was a little difficult
at time, not due to lack of wind or gusts, but simply because the wind was
pretty cross-shore and the waves closely spaced, so as you jumped off one
wave you would land on the face of the next wave and immediately jump
again. There was no room to recover from a jump between the waves and no
room for error. On most occassions I made it out OK with a few little hops
off the whitewater, then about 6 jumps in a row in the impact zone,
followed by some more relaxed jumping off the bigger set waves out the
back. Needless to say a few times i messed up one of the landings in the
'impact zone' and got punished!
Out the back the waves were pretty big, all over head high and some a lot
bigger. This led to some nice floaty jumps and some sweet flat out gybes
under the lip followed by a made balst back in down the face of a wave all
the way.
All in all an excellent session, especially as it looked as though it was
going to be horrible.
